A PowerBall Plus jackpot prize of R2,284,810.40 remains unclaimed nearly six months after it was won on Tuesday, 12 November 2024.
iThuba shares details about unclaimed R2.2million PowerBall jackpot
The ticket was purchased at Mayfield Square, located in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The clock is ticking, as the ticket is set to expire on 12 November 2025.
The PowerBall and PowerBall Plus draws are weekly lottery games in South Africa, where players select five numbers and an additional number known as the PowerBall.
To win the top prize in PowerBall Plus, a player must match all five main numbers and the PowerBall. The PowerBall draw on 12 November 2024 produced one such winner — a player who has yet to come forward.
According to iThuba, the official operator of the National Lottery, if a prize is not claimed within 365 days of the draw date, it expires.
That means the R2.2 million prize will be forfeited if the winner does not present the valid ticket before or on 12 November 2025.
In the PowerBall draw that same evening, the numbers drawn were 04, 05, 18, 39, 42 and the PowerBall 14.
While no one matched all five numbers plus the PowerBall, two players matched five numbers and each won R203,662.00.
The PowerBall Plus results revealed one jackpot winner. A second-tier prize of R167,654.00 was awarded to a separate ticket holder who matched five numbers.
PowerBall winnings must be claimed with a physical ticket, which serves as the only proof of entry.
According to iThuba’s rules, unclaimed winnings after the 365-day deadline are channelled into the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), which supports good causes in areas such as education, health, and welfare.
iThuba urges all participants to double-check their old tickets.
“It’s crucial to keep your tickets safe and always check the results after every draw. If you suspect you have a winning ticket, go to your nearest lottery outlet or contact our helpline,” a company spokesperson advised.
Unclaimed prizes like this one often result from lost tickets or players simply not checking their numbers.
All ticket holders are encouraged to verify past results and not discard tickets without confirming the outcome.
